Puppies @ 8 weeks!

Good news!!! Yes, I finally have puppy pictures!!! A big Thank You to Mandi Juarez who is mom to the puppies 1/2 sister "Fever"( CH Arcoiris Hot Hot Heat!RNX DNA-VP) for photographing them. She did such an awesome job, every picture we take from here on in will pale in comparison!
Well, it seems now would be a good time to go to the photos, but I think I will make you wait and take a few minutes of your time to talk about the puppies week...and what a big week for them!
Who says one person can't vaccinate 9 puppies by themselves?? Yes, I did it. I guess being a nurse doesn't hurt and I am very comfortable with a syringe in my hand, but my patients are not wiggling all over..these guys are extreme wiggle butts! None the less I was able to accomplish the mission, not one peep, cry, squeal or protest from a puppy was heard and they all received their first 5 way Distemper/parvo combination shot. This was the first time we waited so long to give vaccines. We usually start at 6 weeks, but the more I read and research, the less I want to give them. I do know they are a necessary evil for the first few years of a dogs life..but I am not convinced they are so necessary past a certain age...but that is another subject and an often heated debate.
The puppies showed no ill effects from their shots and on Saturday afternoon I packed them all up and took them to Josicha's Planet Canine http://planet-canine.com/ for the temperament testing. Pam who owns Planet Canine along with her husband Rich, always does a great job conducting and evaluating our puppy temperament testing.  The puppies did awesome and we have more potential little show and performance stars as well as great companion prospects! With the results of the testing and 10 weeks closely approaching we are now able to offer puppies to homes...so if you are interested in a certain puppy, please contact me at marehaven@netzero.net and I will be happy to send you a puppy questionnaire. Also, starting this year, Liz is attending school at the University of Georgia. She will be up for Labor Day weekend and may be able to bring a puppy down to the Atlanta area to avoid shipping.

To the left is Bugatti, aren't you glad he isn't available! Fastest water bowl emptier in the Midwest!

So without further delay...on to the head shots and stacked photos!!!

Evaluating structure and movement is always done best at 8 weeks. So far the combination of CH Ryder and  CH Phoenix has proven to be everything we hoped for. Rears are looking really strong and fronts are coming along as well. Puppies are little trotting maniacs and now the job of leashing breaking begins. I will start with puppy collars with pull tabs on half of them and then after a while switch so the other puppies have the collars and tabs. We have found that usually after repeating this once, along with a little coaxing on the leash, puppies are more than ready to go with us off to the next great adventure!
Plans for the week- puppies will be at the ASC of MI Labor Day Show  http://www.ascofmichigan.com/ to hang  out and meet new people! Tentative schedule will be to have two groups of puppies one on Saturday and one on Sunday, 4 & 5 in each group so they can get optimal attention!! Please come and visit us!!!
Until after the show,
janine
